Degrees Of Duty

Every now and again I get the opportunity to work on something that really inspires me on a personal level. When Dave Clarke called me about a WWII story that he was working on I was delighted. I started by researching, Bren and myself spent a whole day watching back-to-back Band of Brothers and drinking tea. Another day was spent looking at graphics from rations and propaganda art work from both the Germans and the Allies. It all just sort of triggered something in my brain, compassion for the men that fought and for the civilians that they passed on the way.

The director and I searched for the perfect location and were lucky. We found a broken down barn in the hills of Slane village and a forest which was in the process of being cut down somewhere in the Wicklow hills.

Since working on Degrees of Duty I have remained interested in WWII and visited Bastogne last summer to see the actual location where this story happened. I’m always waiting for a call to work on a war feature – that would be my dream.
